Electro Muscle Stimulation, explained simply.
Electro Muscle Stimulation (often shortened to EMS training) is a coached workout in which a suit fitted with electrodes sends low-frequency impulses to your major muscle groups while you perform guided movements. The impulse deepens each contraction, so a 25-minute session works muscles that a classic workout takes much longer to reach. The method was born in physiotherapy and rehabilitation decades ago; today professional athletes use it, and studios like ours bring it to anyone short on time.
How a session works at VOLTARA
You arrive in light sportswear. We fit the stimulation suit over it. Your coach sets a very low intensity, then raises it group by group, only with your OK. For 25 minutes you follow simple movements — squats, lunges, holds — while the suit does the deep work. Then you take the suit off and you are done for the week. Your first visit takes a little longer than 25 minutes because of the body scan, the health questionnaire and the setup.
What it feels like
A strong tingling that becomes muscle contraction. It surprises everyone for the first minutes, and it is gentler than most people imagine. You are never alone: a coach is with you from the first second to the last, and you can lower the intensity or stop at any moment. Yes, you sweat a little. Some soreness the first times is normal.
Who it is for
Women and men from 18 to 75, complete beginners and trained athletes. People who want to get stronger, tone up, lose weight, or get back into shape after an injury with their clinician's go-ahead. And above all: people who do not have four hours a week to give to a gym.
Who should check with a doctor first
Pregnancy, a pacemaker or any implanted electronic device, epilepsy, a recent surgery or an acute illness, and serious heart conditions are contraindications. We go through a health questionnaire with you before your first session. If in doubt, ask your clinician first.
The 3D body scan
Every member gets a 3D body scan at the start and then once a month: an estimate of body composition, measurements and posture. It is an assessment aid, not a medical diagnosis. Your coach uses it, together with your goals, to steer the training.
What is included
A coach at every session. Personal training. One body scan a month. Nutrition and diet advice. The suit. One session a week is the format; some members choose two.
FAQ
- Is Electro Muscle Stimulation the same thing as EMS?
- Yes. In the US we prefer the full name, because "EMS" also means ambulance services. Same method, same suit, same coach.
- How long does a session last?
- The workout itself is 25 minutes. Plan about 40 minutes for your first visit.
- Do I need to be fit to start?
- No. The coach adapts the intensity to where you start.
