Electro Muscle Stimulation vs the gym: an honest comparison
Time, muscle engagement, joint stress, coaching and cost — how a 25-minute coached Electro Muscle Stimulation session compares to a classic gym routine, without the marketing.
Members ask us the same question at their free session: "Is this really as good as the gym?" The honest answer is that it is a different tool, and it wins on some things and not on others.
Time
A gym routine that touches every major muscle group takes three to four sessions of about an hour each, plus travel. An Electro Muscle Stimulation session is 25 minutes, once a week, with the suit doing the deep work while you perform simple movements. If your problem is time, this is where the method shines.
Muscle engagement
In the gym you choose which muscles work, exercise by exercise. With the suit, the impulses reach the major groups at the same time, including the deep stabilisers that are hard to isolate with weights. It is why beginners feel their core and back "wake up" in the first sessions.
Joint stress
Because the contraction comes from the impulse rather than from a heavy load, you get intense muscle work with very little weight on the joints. That is the reason the method started in physiotherapy, and why people coming back from an injury often start here with their clinician's go-ahead.
Coaching
A gym membership gives you a room. Here a coach is with you every session: intensity, form, breathing, progression. Nobody trains alone.
Where the gym wins
If you love lifting, chasing a specific max, or training for a sport that needs long sessions and heavy loads, the gym remains the right place — and many of our members combine both: one coached session a week here, their own training elsewhere.
Cost
Compare like with like: a coached session here costs less than a personal trainer session, and more than an unlimited gym card you may or may not use. The question is what you actually do with the time you buy.
The simplest way to decide is to feel it: the first session is free.
